AS A REDSHIRT SOPHOMORE • 2009 Oregon’s closer, appeared in 23 games and was named Pac-10 Honorable Mention...finished the year with a 2.70 ERA and 1-0 record in 30 innings pitched...tallied seven saves finishing the regular season tied for sixth in the Pac-10...with runners on, held opponents to a .217 average, and held leadoff batters to a .184 clip...earned his first save of the season tossing the final inning of Oregon’s historic 5-3 victory over Saint Mary’s (2/20)...his second historic appearance came on March 28 at PGE Park, as the Ducks defeated Oregon State, 3-2, in a 10-inning thriller...earned his first win of the season after pitching the final two innings of the OSU game and holding the Beavers scoreless while striking out the side in the top of the 10th to set up Oregon’s game winner...pitched 4 and 2/3 innings of scoreless baseball, holding Santa Clara hitless as the Ducks eventually won 3-2 in 13 innings (3/7)...earned saves by tossing the final innings and holding opponents scoreless in wins over Nevada (3/14), Washington (3/21) and Sacramento State (3/25)...earned his fifth save of 2009 after helping the Ducks to their first home Pac-10 victory by holding Stanford hitless in 1 and 1/3 innings during a 2-1 victory (4/3)...held Cal scoreless for an inning to earn his sixth save during Oregon’s 5-3 win at California (4/18)...his seventh save of the season came after an inning of work in a 3-2 victory over UCLA (5/1)...made his only start of the year pitching 4 and 2/3 innings, allowing one run on two hits while striking out four in a 5-2 loss to Arizona (5/23).
PRIOR TO OREGON Attended Fresno State for the 2006-07 academic year and made 14 appearances during the 2007 season...transferred to Oregon for the 2007-08 academic year and redshirted...during the summer of 2008 played for Anchorage Bucs of the Alaska Baseball League...pitched in a combined no-hitter, tossing seven innings and allowing no hits in his effort.
HIGH SCHOOL A 2006 graduate of Santa Cruz High School (Calif.)...was a four-year letterwinner in baseball...earned first-team all-league outfielder accolades...team won SCCAL championship in 2006...also CIF Division III Champions in 2003.
PERSONAL Born Sept. 21, 1988 in Santa Cruz, Calif...parents are Jean and Martha Gagnier...majoring in sociology...brother Lauren played baseball for current Oregon head coach George Horton at Cal State Fullerton from 2004-06...Lauren currently plays in the Detroit Tigers minor league system.
