2009 Pac-10 All-Academic Honorable Mention
Won the 2009 New England Collegiate Baseball League Title with the Newport Gulls…in game one of the series against the Vermont Mountaineers, the Gulls were victorious by the score of 7-2 with Nichols pitching the final two innings of relief and allowing just one hit…in the regular season posted a 3-0 record with one save…nursed a 1.20 ERA in 14 relief appearances and a total of 15 innings pitched…held batters to a .173 average and struck out 15.
AS A REDSHIRT JUNIOR • 2009
One of Oregon’s main relievers, appeared in 20 games...finished the season with a 1-2 record and a 6.63 ERA after tossing a total of 19 innings and striking out 18...held opponents to a .174 clip with two outs on the scoreboard...earned his first victory of the season by pitching the final one and 1/3 innings against Santa Clara, holding the Broncos scoreless during his appearance en route to a 3-2, 13-inning victory (3/7)...in his longest outing of the season, tossed three innings of scoreless baseball, holding Portland to one hit while striking out a season-high four (3/20)...during a stretch from March 31- April 14, appeared in five games, pitching a total of three and 1/3 scoreless innings...in that time held opponents to a .167 clip on two hits while striking out three.
PRIOR TO OREGON
Played at the University of Washington during the 2006 and 2007 seasons...during his time with the Huskies made 17 appearances and three starts, pitching a total of 36.2 innings...finished with a 2-1 record and 27 strikeouts...during the summer of 2008 played for the Corvallis Knights of the West Coast Collegiate Baseball League...helped the Knights to the WCCBL title...pitched 20.2 innings in 19 appearances, maintaining a 1.74 ERA...had a 1-1 record with two saves while striking out 28 and holding opposing batters to a .174 average.
Earned two varsity letters at Jesuit, playing for coaches Craig Webster and Don Lovell...earned first-team All-Metro and honorable mention all-state accolades as a senior...won his team’s most improved award as a junior and was team captain as a senior...posted an 8-2 record during summer ball, helping guide his team to the regional championship...also won two basketball letters and earned most inspirational awards in both basketball and baseball.
