PERSONAL — Born Palauni M. Ma Sun Jr. on Dec. 21, 1985 in Pago Pago, Samoa. Parents: Palauni Sr. and Ilaisa Ma Sun. Family: Two brothers, three sisters. High School: Laie 2003. Junior College (Coach): Fresno City (Tony Caviglia) 2005. Major: Political Science.

JUNIOR COLLEGE — The two-year starter was chosen to SuperPrep magazine’s JUCO 100 as one of the nation’s top-10 ranked junior college linemen. Also picked as JC Grid-Wire first-team All-America after providing key to Rams’ 8-3 contingent that finished 19th in California Community College Football Conference in rushing (181.0 avg.) and 24th in total offense (373.6 avg.). Named to All-California Region II first team as a sophomore for Valley Conference tri-champions who ranked fifth in the state prior to a season-ending 42-21 loss to eventual state champion.

OREGON — Given that the rate of transition for some junior college athletes is uncertain, the JC transfer exceeded expectations from the start. Grasped the system quickly before exiting his first spring sitting atop the depth chart at left guard, and then adapted to the right side early during the 2005 fall. Made great strides overall in his strength level from a year ago, ranking fourth among team’s offensive linemen in his bench press maximum (345 lbs.) His understanding of the offense greatly improved since his 2005 spring debut and he has comprehended the difference in speed at which the game is played at the Division I level. Takes great pride in finishing his blocks and works to get downfield to put a second defender on his back. Coaches look for greater progression with improved technique yet he possesses the right attitude to be a successful offensive lineman at the major college level. Uses his size to his advantage yet hopes are he can improve his speed and quickness during the off-season. Developed as an immediate asset and holds the potential as an all-conference caliber performer his second time around.

2005 — After quickly coming off the bench in the season opener at Houston, was difficult to get off the field in his subsequent 11 starting assignments. Opened the second week at left guard before shifted to the right side of the line for the remaining nine weeks. Took part in 93 snaps at Arizona State and dipped below 60 plays on only two occasions. Part of the fivesome who were all honored with team’s offensive-player-of-the-week accolades. Also recipient for award for most pancake blocks following conclusion of the regular season.
