A New Batch of Newcomers
Wednesday, October 7, 7:00 a.m. PDT

Let's hope today is better than yesterday. In case you missed it, last night we announced that SR CB Willie Glasper suffered a season-ending knee injury. Yes, that's the same Willie Glasper that started on Saturday in place of out-for-the-season Walter Thurmond III, who coincidently was scheduled for surgery less than two hours after Glasper went down in practice.

As harsh as it sounds, that's the nature of the sport, and by the time you hit the midpoint of the season, which the Ducks will do on Saturday, it's almost a given that there will be some different faces among the 22 starters than appeared on opening day. Setbacks like this are not easy to sidestep, but with a huge Pac-10 game in three days, coaches and players have to and will march on.

Switching gears, the Ducks have welcomed six new walk-ons to the fold after tryouts last Wednesday. They will work into scout team roles, but you never know with walk-ons. Could there be a T.J. Ward or Rory Cavaille lurking in their midst? This group boasts California, Washington and Alaska ties, and includes a Tuiasosopo and resident of the North Pole.
