EUGENE, Ore. - Head coach Nils Schyllander and the Oregon men's tennis team have announced the signing of two Pacific Northwest standouts to national letters of intent. Portland native Alex Rovello and Bellevue, Wash. native Mike Schaeffer will join the Ducks' squad in 2010.

"We're thrilled to keep two great players from the Northwest in the Northwest," said Schyllander.

Rovello has won three straight Oregon High School 5A singles titles in his freshman, sophomore and junior seasons at Cleveland High School. The top ranked prep player in the Pacific Northwest has been rated as high No. 19 in the nation this year by tennisrecruiting.net.

"Alex has been highly recruited and he's one of the top players to come out of this region in a very long time," Schyllander said. "He will be the cornerstone of this program in the near future."

Schaeffer, out of the Insight School of Washington, is a doubles ace, holding the No. 1 doubles ranking in the Pacific Northwest region.

He won both the boy's sectional doubles championship and the Washington High School 3A doubles titles last year and Schaeffer has already won the 2009 boy's sectional doubles championship this season.

"Mike is an absolutely fantastic player," Schyllander said. "He has made huge strides in his senior season and he will continue to improve as he competes for us."

He will be a second generation Duck as his father Gordon Schaeffer is a University of Oregon graduate.
