MONCTON, New Brunswick, Canada -- Jordan Hasay wrapped up her junior running career with a strong fourth place finish in the women’s 1,500 meters Sunday at the 2010 IAAF World Junior Championships at Stade Moncton.
The freshman from Arroyo Grande, Calif., ran 4;13.95, which was just off her personal best. Tizita Gogale of Ethiopia won in 4:08.06, followed by Ciara Mageen of Ireland in 4:09.51 and Nancy Chepkwemoi of Kenya in 4:13.95.
"My plan was to stay with the leaders, and they went out really hard," Hasay said. "With a lap to go I felt really good, but when they made a move at 300 to go I just couldn't respond. I guess I am pretty happy I was close to my PR, I just wish I had gone a little quicker.
“In 2008 the race was very tactical, this time was completely different,” said Hasay. “I just didn't think anyone would go out that fast. This shows how strong the Africans really are."
