Lanie Thompson: Building the Bond

Hey Duck Fans!
The men and women's cross-country teams are once again trying to get back into the swing of things with classes here in Eugene after a successful trip to South Bend, Ind. To give a quick summary, the men finished first with a strong showing by every Duck, especially Luke Puskedra who came out with the win! The women took second place behind number one-ranked Villanova, while also beating two teams that were previously ranked second and third. For this early in the season, we are definitely pleased. We know the things that we need to fix when it comes to the race itself so when the championship races start coming along, we will be ready to roll!
Even though there is still a good amount of time left in the season, it feels as if time is flying by. It seems like only yesterday that we were boarding the bus to Sunriver feeling as if there was never a three-month gap to separate the team. Our bond was just as strong as ever after summer vacation and grew even stronger throughout camp. I know I have mentioned this team "bond" several times throughout my blogging, but I mention it again today because I've realized that the entire team is truly on the same page.
Of course we all have similar goals we want to achieve this season, but for the first time after the race in a team huddle with just the women, we actually verbalized these goals. After discussing the future of the season out loud with one another, I think we all realized that it is only through hard work together that our team goals will become reachable. We could not be more excited for the rest of the season to unfold!
Up next for the Ducks is the Bill Dellinger Invitational on October 16th at Alton Baker Park. We are pumped to have a home meet and run in front of family, friends, and of course fans.
Thanks for tuning in and until next time, GO DUCKS!
