The Ducks garnered a No. 2 national ranking in the National Collegiate Acrobatics and Tumbling Association’s preseason coaches’ poll, which was released on Monday afternoon.
UO finished with 21 points and one first-place vote in the poll, three points behind defending national champion Maryland.
“It is always interesting to see where your colleagues rank the teams,” head coach Felecia Mulkey said. “As a coach, I’m not focusing on preseason polls. Our focus is on the upcoming season, perfecting our technique and coming together as a team.”
Oregon will be in the national spotlight for a number of reasons. In addition to opening the year as one of the preseason national title favorites, UO will host the NCATA National Championships at the brand new Matthew Knight Arena April 7-10.
The Ducks finished third at the NCA National Championships in their inaugural 2010 campaign. This season will be the first under the new acrobatics and tumbling meet format, which is sanctioned by USA Gymnastics.
