An Update from Senior Duncan "Diesel" MacDonald-Korth
Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2010
Hello again Duck fans, Duncan Macdonald-Korth reporting here.
Well, we have wrapped up the fall term in strong fashion. We finished playing at the PNW Intercollegiates at the Nordstrom Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Washington. Robin Cambier and Alex Rovello both had strong showings, advancing to the quarterfinals and semifinals, respectively. Rovello had a particularly strong victory over University of Idaho’s #1, Lachlan Reed, while Cambier defeated Alex Joitou of Idaho. These wins are even more important in the context of dual season as Idaho will be one of our early season big matches. Getting these wins against Idaho in the fall really sets the tone for the dual match.
Currently, we have entered our dreaded 8-hour clock (dreaded because this team loves to work hard and 8 hours is not enough!). However, we often practice voluntarily as a team and are making progress despite the schedule.
This week we will also be entering end of term physical conditioning testing. This is always a favorite among the guys because we get to compete both in the weight room and on the track. This fall we will be testing bench press, vertical jump, power cleans, squats, and 400-meter sprints. Specifically, we must run 6 400’s under 1:15 (better get on it recruits!).
Anyway, we really look forward to seeing you all at the dual matches come January!
