Oregon Head Coach Dana Altman:

On the team:
“I thought our focus was much better tonight, we eliminated mistakes. We had good effort from the guys off the bench. I’m pleased the guys were critical of themselves when watching the film of the game from last week. This game was a step in the right direction. We have to get more fundamentally sound, but I was pleased with their efforts. We’ve got a long ways to go as a team, but today was just a start.”

On the game:
“Defensively we were sound and didn’t give up easy baskets, which was important. We took away easy baskets, which hurt them (Texas Southern), it made their energy go down. We were making baskets and our energy went up.”

On playing against Duke:
“They’re a good basketball team, they’re great on defense. They’re big and strong. It’ll be a big challenge, we want to go up there and compete and play the best we can on Saturday. We try not to talk about winning and losing, just things we can improve on. Duke beats teams badly because they have such a good defense.

On E.J. (Singler) playing his brother:

“I’m sure E.J. is excited. It’s good for his family, one son is playing for the defending national championship team and the other plays for the home state team. I spent time with Kyle (Singler) this summer; he’s a great young man. E.J. is a great guy as well. I’ll just tell E.J. to take a deep breath and fight his tale off against Kyle. Kyle beats him on size and height, so he has to get low and box him out well.”

Garrett Sim:

On this long shot before halftime:
“I just got the rebound, looked up and saw there were four seconds left. I pushed it up and it gave us good momentum going into the second half.”

On the team tonight:
“We executed our press better, we got a few steals off of it and it gave us some momentum. We took pride in not so many turnovers tonight. We really came together. We practiced really hard yesterday. This game gave us a renewed enthusiasm.”

Tyrone Nared:

On the game:
“We knew we had to get rebounds right away to win this game. We had high intensity all game and played hard the whole game. Garrett’s (Sim) shot sparked energy for the second half.”

On the team:
“We worked together as a team today. We played as a team, and worked hard together. Coach (Altman) told us we had to be patient and things would come to us, and it paid off.”
