Walker's Pace: Women Debut at No. 2
Wednesday, March 23, 2011
The preseason outdoor track and field polls were released by the USTFCCCA on Wednesday.
The Women of Oregon were No. 2 nationally, while the men were No. 12.
The polls are based on returning performances from the 2010 season, so the men lost big points from the graduation of Ashton Eaton and Andrew Wheating, among others. The women also lost some big scorers - like Keshia Baker and Nicole Blood - but had enough to claim the No. 2 spot - which is where they were at the end of last season.
Fans might want to consider getting tickets now for the April 9 Pepsi Team Invitational. All four men's teams are currently ranked - No. 7 Stanford, No. 9 Nebraska, No. 12 Oregon and No. 21 Washington. On the women's side, two of the very best in the Pac-10 will square off in No. 2 Oregon and No. 13 Stanford, with Nebraska and Washington also very capable of winning.
