Ducks Win First Game on Italy Trip
Release Date: 08/24/2011
“Twenty-nine turnovers is a big concern,” head coach Dana Altman said. “We did not focus enough on making plays for each other. We dribbled the ball too much.
“In the second half we shared the ball more, but there is still a lot of room for improvement,” Altman said.
The Ducks shot 45 percent from the floor (24-of-53), while making just 3-of-15 from behind the 3-point arc. UO also shot 68 percent from the charity stripe (20-of-29).
UO freshman guard Jabari Brown scored a team-high 18 points to go with six rebounds. The newcomer from Oakland, Calif., finished 7-of-11 from the field (63 percent) and 1-of-3 on 3-pointers.
Junior center Tony Woods added 12 points, six rebounds and five blocks. Junior forward Carlos Emory tallied a team-best eight rebounds. Senior forward Olu Ashaolu scored eight points and grabbed seven rebounds to go with his three steals.
"I am pleased with the rebounding numbers, we did go hard to the glass," Altman said.
Sophomore guard Johnathan Loyd contributed six points and a team-high five assists.
Oregon returns to action Friday, Aug. 26 with a game against Scafati. Tip-time for that contest is scheduled for 6:30 pm (Italian Time).
"Our defense improved in the second half, but we will need to improve, as our opponents only get tougher throughout the trip," Altman said.
