Walker's Pace: Duck Teams Slide a Spot in Polls

Tuesday, September 20, 2011

In the midst of a couple of weeks off in between meets, the Oregon cross country teams each slipped a spot in this week's USTFCCCA poll.

The men are now No. 6, while the women are No. 17.

Wisconsin, which will visit Track Town on Oct. 1 for the Bill Dellinger Invitational, was the No. 2 team in the men's poll.

A number of regionally ranked squads will also compete in the Dellinger. In the women's competition, Wisconsin is ranked No. 7 in the Great Lakes Region, Wichita State in No. 12 in the Midwest, Southern Utah is No. 12 in the Mountain, Portland is No. 13 in the West and Oregon State is No. 15 in the West. For the men, Southern Utah checks in at No. 8 in the Mountain Region.

The sixth annual Bill Dellinger Invitational has the women's race at 10:30 a.m. and the men's race at 11:15 a.m.

THOMPSON GRANTED SIXTH YEAR

The NCAA has granted Travis Thompson a sixth year of eligibility in outdoor track due to medical hardship. Thompson, from Newport, Ore., missed the entire 2011 season, but finished fifth in the 800 meters at the Pac-10 Championships in 2010 and was also an NCAA semifinalist at that distance. Additionally, Thompson was a key member of Oregon's 4x400 meter relay squads that were third in 2009 and fourth in 2010 at the conference meet. He also missed the 2008 season due to injury while competing for Lane Community College.

Thompson will join an intriguing mile relay pool that potentially includes world gold medalist Mike Berry, Elijah Greer and Bryan Harper, as well as freshmen Kelley Beck, Johnathan Cabral and Arthur Delaney.
