Dear Duck Fan,
At 1-2 early in the 1994 season, most outsiders wrote off the Ducks, figuring a fourth straight non-winning season was in store in Eugene. Fortunately, the coaches and the team kept believing as they continued to prepare and compete. The 1994 team chose to move forward from that rocky start and you all know what happened next. Decisive wins over Iowa and USC, “The Pick,” a gritty 10-9 win over Arizona’s “Desert Swarm” defense and the 17-13 Civil War victory in Corvallis, which led us to the Rose Bowl.
Most all of you were there for that breakthrough. Since then, you’ve made Autzen Stadium one of the greatest venues in all of college football with a sold-out streak of 82 games (and counting) that dates back more than 12 years.
In fact, in the 18 seasons dating back to that Rose Bowl year, Oregon ranks eighth in the nation with 158 victories. The Ducks are now in the company of Louisiana State, Texas, Florida, USC, Nebraska and Oklahoma and ahead of Michigan and Tennessee on that list.
To remain and compete in that elite company, we knew we had to keep moving forward which meant facing tough competition on the field and beginning the critically important new construction project for the football program off the field.
Our fans rose to the occasion and continued to provide the support which has been the foundation of this program. We won our third consecutive conference championship, one of only four schools in league history to accomplish that feat. The inaugural PAC-12 Football Championship was won by the Ducks in Autzen Stadium producing a memorable post game celebration and I am confident the league will not find a better host than the University of Oregon. Our game day atmosphere remains the best in the PAC-12.
We especially thank you for your support and understanding of this new championship format by the PAC-12. As with any inaugural event, much was learned in the process and there are adjustments that will be made. We have shared your valuable feedback with the PAC-12 to ensure this event can build on the high standard set by the fans at Autzen Stadium.
As we look forward to a new year and another appearance in the Rose Bowl, we reflect on how fortunate we are to have the best fans in the country whose generosity continues to propel us among the nation’s elite.
Your support as a Duck on Saturdays in the fall and throughout the year is why we are able to keep moving forward. We hope to see you in Pasadena against the Badgers. The Rose Bowl is very excited to host the Ducks again and we are confident the sea of yellow (Oregon’s official color that day) will be heard. Thanks again for all you do to make Oregon great.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS AND GO DUCKS!
