FRESNO, Calif. - The dual between the No. 50 ranked Oregon Ducks and No. 19 ranked Fresno State Bulldogs scheduled for Sunday (Mar. 18) at 12 p.m. has been cancelled due to inclimate weather. Oregon men's tennis head coach Nils Schyllander confirmed that after an hour an half rain delay, the two squads were forced to retire during doubles play.
"I feel like it was an opportunity lost," remarked coach Schyllander. "We were competing hard and we are disappointed we didn't get to finish the match."
After an hour and half rain delay pushed back the start of the match to 1:30 p.m., the Ducks and Bulldogs were able to complete two doubles matches before again stopping play in the middle of the third match, this time for good. The Oregon men will return home from their first road trip with a 1-0 record having defeated the University of San Francisco 4-3 on Friday (Mar. 16).
"It was great," said coach Schyllander of the road trip as a whole. "We had a great road win against San Francisco and were right there against the No. 19 ranked team in the country. I feel good about the way we are playing."
The Ducks (12-1) will return home before traveling north to face the Portland State Vikings on Monday (Mar. 26) in Portland, Ore. The cancelled match will not be rescheduled this year and the two completed doubles matches will not count against individual or team records.
