EUGENE - The No. 16 University of Oregon softball team (21-6, 1-2) opened a busy spring break stretch with a pair of doubleheader wins over Boise State (25-12, 0-0) by 4-1 and 14-6 scores Wednesday afternoon at Howe Field.

In the afternoon finale, UO racked up a season-high 14 runs in the five-inning triumph and its sixth win via the regulation-shortened, eight-run rule.

Oregon struck for eight runs in the first inning, then added six more in the fourth inning, while Boise State scored all of its runs in the fourth and fifth innings.

Duck freshman third baseman Jamie Rae Sullivan (2-for-3) belted her first collegiate homer and knocked in a team-high four RBI - two on her first-inning homer and two more on a fourth-inning double.

Senior Kelsey Chambers and junior Christie Nieto also both went 2-for-3 and knocked in two and three RBI, respectively. The Concord, Calif., native Chambers also moved up a place on the Duck all-time career RBI list (eighth, 118), passed school hall of famer Kathy Stahl (ninth, 117).

Four other Ducks also hit safely once - sophomores Courtney Ceo (1-for-2, 1 RBI) and Kailee Cuico (1-for-2), freshman Janie Takeda (1-for-3, 2B,  2 RBI) and junior Allie Burger (1-for-3).

Freshman Karissa Hovinga (7-1) pitched the first three innings, struck out two, walked three, and gave up one hit and no runs. Junior Samantha Pappas pitched the last two innings - double her previous total on the season - and struck out four, walked seven, allowed three hits, and five of her six runs allowed were earned.

For Boise State, starter Kenzie Cole (2-1) struck out four, walked three, allowed 10 hits, and eight of her 14 runs allowed were earned.

Looking ahead, UO hosts Boise State for one more game Thursday at noon.
