EUGENE, Ore .- The University of Oregon women’s golf team is in 11th place after the first round of the 2012 Mason Rudolph Invitational hosted by Vanderbilt University. The Ducks shot a 17-over-par 305 on Friday at the Legend Club North Course in Nashville, Tenn.
Sophomore Cassy Isagawa shot 1-over-par 73 and finished the day in a tie for eighth place. Isagawa recorded one eagle, two birdies and only one bogey on the front nine, but struggled on the back nine with two bogeys and one double-bogey. "I wanted to recognize Cassy for turning it around today," Oregon Head Coach Ria Scott said. "She had an incredible finish and is learning how to score when she doesn't hit it her best."
Ducks also counted scorecards from sophomore Cali Hipp (3-over 75), freshman Caroline Inglis (5-over 77) and Monica Petchakan (8-over 80). Competing for the first time as a Duck is senior Hanule Seo who shot 10-over 82.
"We had a great plan, but we just made some mental mistakes prior to execution," Scott said. "If we are going to improve on our score, we need to adjust more quickly to conditions and really just take it one shot at a time."
In the team standings, Texas got out to a good start on the first day shooting 6-over 294. Arizona finished second (10-over 298) and Kentucky (11-over 299) rounded out the standings in third after the first round.
There is a three-way tie for first place in the individual standings between Wake Forest’s Olafia Kristinsdottir, Virginia’s Briana Mao and Michigan State’s Caroline Powers. They shot 1-under 71 in the first round of the event.
