In singles play, 15th-seeded Patricia Skowronski defeated Stanford’s Natalie Dillon 6-1, 6-3 before facing the fourth-ranked player, California’s Anett Schutting, and dropping the match 6-2, 6-1. Julia Metzger faced ninth-ranked Jenny Jullien of Saint Mary’s College and fell 6-3, 6-2.
The rest of Oregon’s singles players participated in Saturday’s consolation bracket. Lana Buttner defeated the University of San Francisco’s Brooke Irish 7-5, 6-1, while Nicole Long took down Gonzaga’s Prue Teitzel 6-2, 6-3. Falling in the consolation bracket were Lena Macomson, who lost to Washington State’s Charlotte Koning 6-1, 6-3, and Sofia Hager who lost to Katharina Knoebl of Sacramento 3-2 before the match was cut short due to injury.
Both Oregon doubles teams faltered today as Metzger and Pascale Neubert lost to San Francisco’s Holmberg and Ka 8-1, while third-seeded Hager and Skowronski fell to Flores and Frampton of Saint Mary’s College 8-1.
“We didn’t play our best today,” said head coach Paul Reber. “I was disappointed with our performance in doubles, but we’ll have the chance to play some put-together matches tomorrow and hopefully we can come back stronger having learned from today.”
The Ducks have a chance to redeem themselves in Sunday’s consolation bracket. Buttner will face Chau Truong of San Jose State at 10:30 a.m. Skowronski is scheduled for a match against California’s Annie Goransson at 12:30 p.m. Macomson will go up against UC Davis’ Zoe Davidson at 11:30 a.m., and Julia Metzger will take on Lynn Chi of California at 12:30 p.m. Metzger and Neubert will team up again to face Julianna Bacelar and Chau Truong of San Jose State at 9:00 a.m in the doubles consolation bracket.
