EUGENE – Moving into sole possession of second place in the nation’s top volleyball conference, No. 3 University of Oregon (18-1, 9-1) repeated its previous ranking in the ninth AVCA Coaches Poll of the season.
Last weekend, UO logged its first-ever pair of same-weekend 3-0 wins at Arizona and Arizona State. Oregon had also beaten both teams on the road the same trip under eighth-year head coach Jim Moore twice before in 2011 (UA 3-0, ASU 3-1) and '07 (UA 3-0, ASU 3-1), and once prior in 1987 (by 3-1 counts).
UO was one of five Pac-12 schools spotted in the top seven overall Monday with No. 2 Stanford, No. 5 Washington, No. 6 UCLA and No. 7 USC.
One other Duck foe stood top 25 – No. 20 Ohio State – and California, Kentucky, Oregon State and St. Mary’s have picked up votes in current or previous editions.
Overall during head coach Jim Moore’s eight-year tenure, Oregon has now been ranked top 25 for 84 editions (2012-10; 2011-14; ’10-13; ’09-16; ’08-16; ’07-13; ’06-2), including 48 in the top 15, and all 21 of the team’s ever top-10 honors. UO has also scored four, top-three rankings since mid-September with its No. 2 rankings in the fifth and sixth editions of the year, and third-place polling last week.
Among other poll news, the top 12 teams from last week all remained exactly the same. Those teams included three from the Big Ten (No. 1 Penn State, No. 4 Nebraska, No. 10 Minnesota), and one team each from the Big 12 (No. 8 Texas), WAC (No. 9 Hawai’i), SEC (No. 11 Florida) and ACC (No. 12 Florida State).
The complete poll follows at the bottom of this article, and is also available at the AVCA website at the http://www.avca.org/divisions/division-one-women/polls/ URL address.
This weekend, UO hits the road for the second straight week and plays at Colorado (13-7, 3-5) and Utah (11-10, 2-6), Fri.-Sun., Oct. 26-28.
Looking ahead to November, Oregon’s next home action will be vs. California and No. 2 Stanford, Friday-Sunday, Nov. 2-4 at 6 and 1 p.m., respectively.
Duck fans can tune to watch all four of those matches on Pac-12 Networks, with the Buffalo, Golden Bear and Cardinal tilts televised on the Pac-12 Oregon Network, and the Ute contest on the Pac-12 National Network.
