Ducks Basketball Dominates Vanderbilt, 74-48
Release Date: 11/16/2012
Oregon started off fast with a three-point play by senior Tony Woods on a one-handed dunk and never turned back, as they led for the duration of the game. Woods scored the game’s first seven points.
Three Ducks scored in double figures led by senior E.J. Singler with an Oregon season-high of 22 points. Singler also dished out six assists and grabbed five rebounds. Woods and freshman Damyean Dotson contributed ten points each and senior Carlos Emory provided spark off the bench with nine points of his own.
Senior transfer Arsalan Kazemi was cleared to play by the NCAA yesterday and proved his worth to the Ducks in his first game by leading the team in rebounding with seven. He also scored five points and recorded two steals in 21 minutes of action.
Oregon shot 45.5% from the floor compared to Vanderbilt’s 34.0% and also outshot the Commodores from the three-point line 27.3% to 19.0%.
Defensively, UO forced 18 turnovers and made the most out of those plays by scoring 26 points off of turnovers. Freshman Dominic Artis led the team with three steals, while Singler and Kazemi recorded two each.
After heading into halftime with a 41-20 lead, the Ducks went on a four-minute drought before Vanderbilt head coach Kevin Stallings received two technical fouls and was ejected from the game. Singler hit three of the four free throws, followed by a three-point shot to extend Oregon’s lead.
A three-point play by Emory on a fast break put the Ducks up by 21 with 9:34 left in the game. The Commodores responded with a three-pointer, but senior guard Johnathan Loyd threw an alley-oop pass to Emory who finished the play with a reverse dunk to put the crowd on its feet. Oregon scored the next eight points, putting the game completely out of reach.
The Ducks return to the court on Monday to face Jacksonville State at 8:00 p.m. at Matthew Knight Arena.
