Postgame Quotes

Head Coach Paul Westhead

On talking to the team postgame…
“I just talked to the team and overall I said that our effort was good. I give credit to USC, but we have to get ready and learn from this because we are going to play a lot of teams like USC coming up.”

On their free throw percentage…

“One major percentage that gets to me was out free throw percentage today. We shot 44 percent from the free throw line during today’s game and our team average is 76 percent. We will not shoot free throws like that ever again, but today unfortunately we did.”

On USC’s strong points in today’s game…

“To their credit they made plays and free throws when they needed to and that’s what it comes down to in winning a game.”

On who played and who did not…

“Our kids got a little bit tired and we could have definitely used Devyn Galland today. She injured her elbow yesterday during practice and I decided not to take the risk and have her play today.”

Junior Guard Ariel Thomas
On missing so many free throws…
“It is frustrating to miss that many. We focused on cutting down on their offensive rebounds and our turnovers, but we lapsed on free throws. It’s very frustrating, but it’s easy to correct.”

On USC coming out hard in the second half…

“They came out with a greater sense of urgency in the second half than we did. We needed to come out with more energy.”

Sophomore Guard Amanda Delgado
On not being consistent throughout the game…
“Offensively we were making shots, but there were too many long periods of not making shots and that hurt us.”

On where to go from here…

“We will learn from this loss and move in the right direction.”
