Postgame Quotes

February 9, 2013

Head Coach Dana Altman

On his initial thoughts towards the game…

“It has been a long ten days and it really feels good to get a win. In the second half a couple of things changed, the floor opened up, we went with a smaller line up and we started hitting shots. Though our shooting percentage was not great, I was just happy to see the ball going through the net. I am very happy that the guys got that win tonight.”

“We were rebounding the heck out of every play in the first half but we just couldn’t complete our shots.”

On losing games…

“When a team is struggling, losing the games that we did, the second half was very important to us. That is the exciting thing about college basketball, you can lose your confidence one week and then win a game and get that confidence back the next week.”

On what changed in the second half…

“Right off, E.J. [Singler] made that three-point shot which got the crowd into the game again. If we aren’t making shots, then we aren’t entertaining the crowd, so it was big getting the three-pointer and the crowd back all in one. After that Arsalan [Kazemi], Damyean [Dotson], E.J. [Singler] and the rest of the guys started making great plays.”

Senior Forward Arsalan Kazemi

On the game…

“The change in the second half was really important. When we went to the locker room, we kind of talked to the team and told them what we needed to do instead of the coaches because this is our team, and we can’t let the coaches care about the team more than we do. We all decided we were going to go out in the second half and change the game and give it all we got.”

“The little plays, the hustle plays, that’s what gets the team going. We had a lot of those plays tonight, especially in the second half. We had a lot of offensive rebounds too.”

On the fouls in the game…

“We didn’t get a lot of fouls and they called a lot of charges the first half, but the coach said it wasn’t the referees fault and that we just have to lower our base and go off strong.”

Freshman Guard Damyean Dotson

On his contributions to tonight’s game…

“It wasn’t me just thinking I had to take over—it was me knowing I had to take over because there was nobody contributing. I felt like we had to all come together and it had to start with me. Just being who I am, with my role on the team, I had to step up because I haven’t been doing that lately.”

Playing with Dominic Artis out…

“I feel like it was a break in game because it’s the middle of the season. At the beginning of the season I was doing good, but now the staff is telling me I need to come out because they need me. They showed me videos of the beginning of the season when I was scoring a lot which inspired me a lot.”
