NEW ORLEANS, La. - Oregon's national championships cross country team added an academic honor to an already stellar year on Monday.

The Ducks were named the USTFCCCA NCAA Division I Women's Scholar Team of the Year for the 2012 cross country season as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). It was Oregon's first Scholar Team of the Year honor.

The Ducks, coached by Peter Tegen National Women's Coach of the Year award winner Robert Johnson - in his first season as the head coach - have earned a 3.66 cumulative grade point average through the 2012 fall semester. At 3.66 the Ducks posted the 10th-best team GPA in the nation, and the second-best among NCAA Championship qualifiers.

With a team score of 114 and a winning margin of 69 over runner-up Providence, Oregon claimed its first NCAA cross country championship since 1987 after winning its first-ever West Regional crown and its first Pac-12 title since 1995. Senior Jordan Hasay led the way for the Ducks with a third-place finish, and was one of three Oregon senior runners to earn USTFCCCA All-America honors with Alexi Pappas (eighth) and Katie Conlon (39th).

Individually, three Oregon runners were selected as Division I All-Academic honorees. Seniors Hasay and Pappas were joined by freshman Allie Woodward in earning that designation.

Scholar Teams of the year are determined from among those who earned All-Academic status and placed highest as a team at the most recent NCAA Championships.
