SAN JOSE, Calif.—The University of Oregon women’s golf team wrapped up the first two rounds of competition at the Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational on Monday in San Jose, Calif. The two-day, three-round tournament hosted by San Jose State concludes Tuesday with a shotgun start at 8:15.
The Ducks finished the first round in a tie for fourth place, shooting 10-over 298 at the 6,223 yard, par-72 course. Stanford finished the first 18 holes in first place at 1-under 287, while California was behind them in second place, shooting 3-over 291, and third place UC Irvine shot 9-over 297.
Leading UO in the first round was senior Cheyenne Burbank with a 1-under 71 score to put her in a tie for third place, while fellow senior Avery Sills shot a 3-over 75 to put her in a tie for 23rd place. This is the first spring competition for both seniors. Sophomore Cassy Isagawa and sophomore Cali Hipp tied for 28th place, shooting 4-over 76. Sophomore Monica Petchakan also competed for the Ducks, shooting 13-over 85.
In Monday’s second round, the Ducks shot 16-over 304 and fell two spots to sixth place in the team rankings. Stanford shot 3-over 288 and stayed in the stop spot, while second place California also maintained their standing, shooting 8-over 288 in round two.
Individually, Isagawa and Hipp shot par-72 to move from a tie for 28th place to a tie for 11th place overall at 4-over 148. Oregon’s round one leader, Cheyenne Burbank, shot 8-over 80 and fell from third place to a tie for 24th at 7-over 151. Sills shot 10-over 82 to fall into 51st place, and Petchakan improved in round two, shooting 8-over 80.
Two Stanford players finished the day in the top two as Mariah Stackhouse (70-71-141) and Danielle Frasier (73-71-144) finished first and second, respectively.
