Head Coach Robert Johnson

On today's meet...

"There were a lot of good things going on. As you saw some of our Freshman got a chance to get out. It was a really good time at the Oregon Preview."

On Liz Brenner...

"We kind of used the day as practice. It was a good opener for her. I will say she is throwing a littler farther in practice. But there are the jitters and the rust that comes with the first meet. She did well overall."

On De'Anthony Thomas...

"The more time he can put in, the better he'll get over time. Technically there are things he still needs to improve on but the talent's definietly there."

Women's 2000 Meter Steeplechase

1st Place-Bridget Franek (OTC)

On how the race felt...

"It was good to get back out there. It was an opportunity to remind the body how it feels to race. Nice to see how the drills converted into racing."

On future training...

"I'm going to altitude next week. Looking forward to trying some other events but the focus is on the 3k Steeplechase. I'm not sure where or when I'll open, it might be here. We'll just have to see."

On new training...

"My body is learning to absorb the training. I feel a lot fitter, looking forward to this season"

Women's 1500 Meter Run

1st Place-Alexa Efraimson (Unattached)

On her conditioning...

"I've done a few indoor meets, I was surprisedby my time. Never ran against people of this calliber outside but I did run against some colliegate people during the indoor season."

On Pace...

"I wanted to hit 70s and then speed it up on the last lap. My goal is to just keep progressing."

3rd Place-Laura Roesler (UO)

On running 1500...

"It's not my first time running the race of death. We always run longer races for this meet. It's a good race for training. Tough coming off the high of winning indoors."

On future races...

"Just trying to get through finals week and take care on myself. I'm looking forward to spring break and training hard."

Women's Javelin

3rd Place-Liz Brenner (UO)

On her training...

"I had two practices this week. Practice is going well. I'm learning a lot and having fun."

On how she feels physically...

"I feel good. I'm excited to do javelin and do something that makes my body feel good. When I take time off I get bored. I'd rather be competing."

On leaving Softball...

"I have more fun doing track. I wanted to try something new. I miss softball, but I'd rather be throwing javelin."

Men’s 110 Meter Hurdles

1st Place-Johnathan Cabral (UO)

On the performance…

"I was happy. My goal for predicted sunny weather was a 13.65, I think I ran in the high 60s. The wind, change in direction, and rain wasn’t great. But I was happy with my performance, I felt a little all over the place though. It wasn’t perfectly clean."

On season goals…

"Going for the win (at the NCAA Championships). I want to run a 13.13, working hard to get it. This was a good start to the season, just need to keep working."

Women’s 400 Meter Dash

1st Place-English Gardner (UO)

On running the 400…

"It’s a love-hate relationship. Went out definitely hating it. I told my coach, ‘I think I’m dying, I’m definitely human.’”

On being at Hayward…

"Nothing better than the liquid sunshine here. Good to be back at Hayward with a little rain. I always love running here, we have the best fans in the world in my opinion."

On the 4X1 exchange…

"Anything can happen. We are always changing positions, I can’t really say what went wrong. Just glad it happened today instead of 6 weeks from now."

Men 800 Meter Run

2nd Place-Chad Noelle (UO)

On 4 minute mile

"It was definitely a big goal. I was disappointed not to make the NCAAs but sometimes you just don’t have a great race. But it was my freshmen indoor season so I still have three seasons left."

On this season’s goals…

"I want to make the 1500m NCAA final, all-american, make the USA outdoor meet. It’s great to have so many fast training partners, Oregon has a strong middle distance group."

Men's 100 and 200 Meter Dash

1st Place-De’Anthony Thomas (UO)

On the 4x100 team…

“We have a pretty good consistent team. It’s all about team effort. We wrok hard every day and push each other to be the best.”

On running track…

“I’m just happy to be here contributing to the team. If I want to be on the team in May, I just need to participate, listen to my coaches. It’s starting to feel more exciting running track. Being a part of college is really great.”

On running at Hayward…

“The crowd is really good. It feels like being at Autzen. Hayward is great for the track team and fans.”

Women’s 800 meter

4th Place-Phyllis Francis (UO)

On 100/800 double…

"I’m just trying to get my endurance up. It was a good 800, definitely an eye-opener."

On lead off in 4x100…

"I’m starting to get the hang off it. More used to starting in the blocks and handing off to Gardner."

On running the 400…

"My confidence is up. I’ve had more experience and my training has been more focused. The 200 helps me get out faster in the 400."

Women’s Hammer

2nd Place-Jillian Weir (UO)

“I threw a personal record today. The hammer throw is fairly new to me, but I’m figuring it out.”

“I think the hammer throw will be my best event this year. I’ve put a lot of work into my training recently.”

Men’s Hammer

13th Place-Greg Skipper (UO)

On new Personal Record…

“I beat it by 2 meters, it was a good day. Definitely more in the tank. At Track Town Tuesday I said I’d get 64 meters so I’m glad I got it.”

On Practice…

“Woods is awesome. We have just been working on technique. I couldn’t be happier with the coaching and with the program.”

On season goals…

“I want to throw far, really far. I think it’d be great to be an All-American at the NCAAs here at Hayward. I’m aiming for top 8, top 5.”

Women’s 3000 Meter Run

7th Place-Abbey Leonardi (UO)

On being on Oregon Cross Country Team…

"Really fun, I enjoyed the team. I was the number seven runner. Great to win the championship. Super fun being on the team, we are all really different but we all get along together well. Made a lot of memories."
