WALNUT CREEK, Calif. – After helping the Pac-12-leading University of Oregon softball team to a 5-1 week vs. No. 4 California and Utah, Jessica Moore received Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week honors Monday.
The senior from Sutter, Calif., logged her fourth and fifth wins of the season vs. top 15-ranked foes with both of the team’s victories vs. the returning Pac-12 champion Bears, and two of its three wins over the Utes.
Her eight strikeouts in the 9-3 finale vs. Cal was two off her season high vs. SDSU (10), and she hit her first homer of the season. In the 5-1 opening win in Berkeley, she walked none and logged six strikeouts en route to her sixth complete game of the year.
For the weekend, she led the squad in ERA (1.59), starts (3), appearances (4), innings (22) and fewest walks (3).
On the season, she leads the team in victories (17), starts (20) and innings (118.1). On Sunday, the three-time all-league selection moved into a tie for 12th all-time for UO for wins in a season, and already owns the team's second-, fourth- and 16th-best marks from 2012 (33), '11 (24) and '10 (16).
Career-wise, she also upped her school records for wins (80), strikeouts (824), appearances (160), wins (90) and innings (820.2).
The returning All-American also won Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week honors in 2011 (3/1) and ’10 (3/29) to become the second Duck pitcher to win three honors in her career.
Moore is the fifth Duck selection this season with three-time honoree and freshman pitcher Cheridan Hawkins (3/5, 3/25, 4/1) and junior first baseman Kailee Cuico (4/1).
Altogether, Monday’s award marked the 42nd pitcher/player honor in school history, and 13th in head coach Mike White’s four-year tenure.
Three other current Ducks have claimed honors in recent years - senior outfielder Samantha Pappas (3/29/10, 4/9/12), junior catcher Alexa Peterson (5/17/11) and senior outfielder Allie Burger (3/2/10).
Off to a best-ever conference start under White, the No. 9 Ducks (33-6, 10-2) staked multiple wins in Berkeley (2) for the first time since 1995, and its sweep of the Utes raised its series win streak to 10 games.
Looking ahead, No. 9 Oregon hosts No. 19 Arizona (26-13, 4-5) for three single games this Friday-Sunday, April 12-14, and the finale will be televised live by the Pac-12 Network.
Promotions-wise, fans that wear pink to ‘Strike Out Cancer Day’ to Friday’s game vs. Arizona (4/12) at 5 p.m. will get $3 admission. The Ducks’ special pink jerseys will be auctioned off during the game sponsored by Carl’s Jr.
Saturday’s game vs. the Wildcats (4/13) at 2 p.m. is Spirit / Yellow Out Day, and fans that wear yellow will get reduced ticket prices ($3 adults / $2 kids). Duck softball player trading cards will also be available for the first time as well as 50 mini-posters, and kids can get autographs after the game.
Sunday’s Arizona finale (4/14) at noon is ASA Day, and kids that wear their softball/baseball uniforms to the game will get $2 tickets. The contest is also a BiMart 2-for-1 ticket deal for fans that show their BiMart cards at the gate.
