DAVIS, Calif. — Oregon junior Shannon Propst posted seven points (three goals, four assists) in Oregon's 15-8 win at UC Davis on Sunday afternoon. Her point total against the Aggies moved her overall total to 66 for the season, which is the new single-season record at Oregon.
Propst (66 points; 27 goals, 39 assists) passes Alex Breiner and Ilsa van den Berg, who each recorded 64 points in 2011 and 2008, respectively.
The Ducks (8-8) are now 3-4 in conference play, while the Aggies dropped to 5-9 overall and 2-5 in MPSF play with the loss.
Oregon never trailed in the match. Senior Kate Cathell got the scoring started with back-to-back goals early in the first half and after a Carly O'Connell free position goal with 11:44 left, the Ducks led 3-0.
UC Davis trimmed the lead to two, 3-1, with 7:51 to go in the first but the Ducks closed the half on a 3-0 run thanks to a goal by Nikki Puszcz and two by Propst. Oregon led 3-1 at the break; junior goalie Caroline Federighi stopped five Aggie shots in the first.
Puszcz put the Ducks up six right out of the gate in the second half. Then, after an Aggie goal, Cathell punched home another to give the Ducks their six-goal advantage back (8-2) with 18:18 remaining.
But minutes later, the Aggies manufactured a 3-0 run to crawl back into the match. Two of the goals were scored by Carly Voris, while Stephanie Guercio tallied the third. The run made it an 8-5 game with 16:03 remaining.
Oregon regained its composure however and responded to the UC Davis run by scoring consecutive goals courtesy of Propst and O'Connell. With under 10 minutes to go, the Ducks led 10-5.
Then, another goal by O'Connell and one more by Puszcz gave the Ducks a 12-5 lead with under seven minutes to go to put the game out of reach.
O'Connell, Cathell, Propst and Puszcz each posted three goals to pace the Ducks.
Oregon won the draw control battle, 13-12, but were out-shot by the Aggies, 27-25. Federighi put together a stellar performance in goal, saving 12 shots in 55:57 of action.
The Ducks have nearly a week off before they wrap up the 2013 campaign on Friday (April 26) at No. 11 Denver.
