The Oregon football team matched its ranking in the preseason coaches' poll by being ranked No. 3 in The Associated Press poll of media, which was released this morning.

The Ducks, coming off a 12-1 season in which they won their second straight BCS bowl to finish No. 2 in the polls, trailed only Alabama and Ohio State in the 2013 preseason AP poll. As was the case in the USA Today coaches' poll, the defending national champion Crimson Tide was nearly a unanimous pick at No. 1, while the gap between the Buckeyes and Ducks was just 30 points.

Oregon matched its highest-ever preseason ranking, from the 2011 season. The Ducks have been in the top 10 of the last 30 polls, going back to mid-September of 2011. Only Alabama (34) has a longer active streak.

This is the third straight season the UO football team has been preseason top-five — Oregon was fifth in 2012 — and the fourth time overall; the Ducks were seventh in the 2001 preseason poll.

Also representing the Pac-12 in the AP preseason poll were No. 4 Stanford, No. 21 UCLA, No. 24 USC and No. 25 Oregon State. Arizona State, Washington and Arizona also received votes.

Oregon opens the 2013 regular season Aug. 31 at home against Nicholls. Tickets remain available at $34 each.
