EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon volleyball fans got their first look at the 2013 squad during the team’s exhibition at Matthew Knight Arena on Saturday and the team did not disappoint, playing five sets that ended in a win for the White Team.

Sophomore hitter Martenne Bettendorf stole the show while playing opposite of the team’s two All-Americans by tallying 26 kills and hitting at a 42 percent clip. Bettendorf was a big part of the Green Team’s success during wins in sets two and three, getting a lot of action and taking 62 attack attempts on the night overall.

Junior Liz Brenner led the White Team in kills with 14, followed closely by redshirt senior Bethany Bair who notched 12.

The White Team of Brenner, Lauren Plum, Ariana Williams, Naya Crittenden, Bethany Bair and Nicky Kevorken started by winning the first set 25-15 thanks to converting on 15-of-23 attack attempts for a .650 hitting rate.

The Green Team, which included Canace Finley, Serena Warner, Shellsy Ashen and Bettendorf, battled back by winning two consecutive sets in impressive fashion, 25-13 and 25-14.

Down 2-1, the White team pulled together to win the fourth set 25-13, sending the match to a fifth set where they would carry their momentum to a 15-10 final-set win to take the match.

The Ducks will hold their second and final exhibition Friday, Aug. 23, at 7 p.m. against a team of Oregon alumni. Check back on goducks.com for a list of alumni who will relive their success on the court.
