EUGENE, Ore. – The University of Oregon men’s golf team heads to Seaside, Calif. this Monday and Tuesday for the St. Mary’s Invitational at Bayonet & Blackhorse Golf Course. The 54-hole tournament will have shotgun starts on both days with teams playing 36-holes on day one. The second and final day of competition will be played on the par-72—7,104 yard Bayonet Golf Course.
The Ducks tee off at 8 a.m. on the Bayonet Golf Course to open the tournament before moving over to the Blackhorse Golf Course for the second round.
This week’s field consists of 19 teams from multiple regions across the United States. The field includes six teams that went to the NCAA Regionals, including Oregon, with three of the six teams having participated in the NCAA Golf Championships the previous year.
Just two years ago, the Ducks were crowned champions of the St. Mary’s Invitational carding a -11/853 winning their first of six tournament titles that year. UO was just shy of defending its title last season finishing third.
Oregon wrapped up its first tournament of the 2013-14 season last week at the Kikkor Golf Husky Invitational tied for seventh (+11/875). Ryann Ree earned his first-ever top-10 finish on his way to carding a -2/214 score tying the sophomore for seventh.
Juniors Rak Cho and Jonathan Woo both finished the tournament tied for 32nd with a final card of +5/221. Zach Foushee shot five over on the final day and finished nine-strokes over par (225). Sulman Raza rounded things out for the Ducks and carded a +12/228 at the tournament.
Freshman Thomas Lim competed as an individual competitor, separate from the team competition, last week at the Husky Invitational and won his first tournament as a collegian. The Moorpark, Calif. native will make his debut on the five-man competition roster for the Ducks this week.
Brandon McIver, like Lim, also competed as an individual and finished 2-under par tying him for third.
