STANFORD, Ore – Junior Jasmine Minor of the Oregon women’s tennis team defeated Claire Jaramishian of UC Davis 7-5, 6-3 Saturday afternoon at the United States Tennis Association/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Northwest Regional and advanced to the round of 32 in the singles consolation bracket.
With Lina Åkesson out with an injury sustained from Friday’s matches, the Ducks were forced to withdraw from their scheduled doubles match and Minor became the lone Duck left competing for UO.
Minor again was tested by her opponent Saturday afternoon. The junior and Jaramishian of UCD went back and forth in the first set before Minor won back-to-back games and edged past Jaramishian 7-5. The second set however was much different for the Mundelein, Ill., native as she cruised to a 6-3 victory and took both the set and match.
"Jamsine improved on a few things we talked about from her first round match," said assistant coach Maja Kovacek. "I think waiting til 4 p.m. to play caused a bit of a slow start but she played better as the matche went on and was able to be more commanding in the second set," said Kovacek.
With the win, Minor advanced to the round of 32 in the consolation bracket in singles action. First serve is set for Sunday at 10:30 a.m. against Cristina Saenz de Buruaga of Paific.USTA/ITA Northwest Regional
