EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon heads down to Fresno, Calif., for the Bulldog Classic hosted by Fresno State this weekend (Nov. 1-3) wrapping up its fall season. Allie Hueffner, Kadie Hueffner, Nicole Long and Lena Macomson will make their first appearance of the 2014 season joining Lina Åkesson and Jasmine Minor.
Long, UO’s lone ranked player (No. 70), makes her first appearance in the 2013-14 season after recording a 22-11 record last season. Like Long, Macomson will be making her first appearance of the season at the classic as well as playing in the open doubles portion of the tournament with FCC’s Maya Mammetgulyyeva.
The Hueffner twins, who are two-time state doubles champions, will make their collegiate debut in Flight A doubles action. Oregon’s other doubles pair will be Long and Minor.
The Ducks are one of seven teams participating in the tournament that includes: Cal Poly, Fresno State, Fresno Pacific, Fresno Community College, Idaho and Portland State.
First serve is slated to begin at 10 a.m. for all flights in singles play while doubles matches are set to begin at 9 a.m.
Last time out at the ITA/USTA Northwest Regional, Åkesson started her collegiate career 2-0 before having to retire with an injury after the first day. Minor went 1-1 on the first day and finished the tournament 3-1 in singles action.
