OREGON QUOTES

Head Coach Dana Altman
On preparing for Georgetown in South Korea…
“We’ve got a long way to go to get ready for next Friday. We didn’t run the floor consistently and in the first half our defense didn’t have a lot of communication. I thought we did a much better job in the second half. We’ve got a lot of new guys out there, but organization was an issue and we weren’t very sharp. It’s going to be a big a big week of practice for us. We’ll get some guys healthy, start executing, and work towards getting better.”

“Our attention to detail and focus isn’t where it should be. There’s not a sense of urgency to get ready for a big game. Hopefully that’ll change this week, because we’re playing a team that’s got four starters back and ended fifth in the country.”

On the game…
“We didn’t have much snap to our defense and didn’t execute much. We just weren’t ready to play.”

“We try to eliminate our excuses as much as possible. We’ve got to run the floor and block out more consistently. Our talking picked up significantly in the second half and I think that’s why we had a better effort.”

“We didn’t play with a lot of energy in the first half, so there’s a lot of adjustments we’ve got to make.”

On Waverly Austin
“I’m happy about the 12 rebounds. We’ve got to have somebody going to get the ball. But offensively, we’re smaller. When he made simple plays, he looked pretty good on finishes.”

On the offense…
“We need shot makers, not shot takers.”

Johnathan Loyd, Guard, Sr.
On how the game went…
“We played terrible. Coach bit us a bit in the locker room. The first half they shot 56 percent from the field, so our defense just wasn’t there. We didn’t execute on offense, we didn’t focus on the boards like coach wanted us to, so all in all, that wasn’t a good showing for us.”

On who stepped up during halftime…
“Everybody was saying some stuff. All of us were saying that we had to change what we were doing. We changed a couple things on defense but we still have to execute on offense.”

On how well Point Loma shot the ball…
“Well we were giving them open threes. Coach was saying from the get-go that they could shoot the three and they’re going to shoot it fast , so I guess we didn’t believe him or something, because they were knocking them down when we gave them open threes.”

On going to South Korea to face Georgetown…
“Very excited. It’s going to be a great experience going over there. We’re going to play a talented Georgetown team, but with an effort like that we’re going to get blown out, so this next week of practice is very important. We’re going to have to step up, gear up a little bit and get ready for this game, but right now we’re not ready for this game.”

Joseph Young, Guard, RJr.
On his scoring performance in the first half…
“I was just knocking down the shots that were open, but the main thing for me tonight is picking it up on defense. Johnny Loyd told me a couple times to get up on a man. I think I was overplaying the pass and the guy kept going backdoor on me. So my main focus is on my defense.”

On the lack of defense in the first half..
“I think we just came out relaxed. We can’t come out relaxed. We can’t come out and be soft on any team. You play the game for a purpose, and they came out and played harder than us, so we had to make adjustments at halftime, and we did.”
