WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Ariana Williams was selected as the Pac-12 defensive player of the week, the conference announced, Monday. The conference honor is the first in Williams’ career and the first by any Oregon player this season.
Williams tallied 16 total blocks during Oregon’s two wins at Utah and Colorado over the weekend, seven of which were solo blocks. The senior posted a career high 11 blocks during the match against the Utes, the most by an Oregon player since Neticia Enesi had 12 in 2008. Williams is also the first Oregon player to reach double-digit blocks twice in the same season since Kristen Bitter recorded two 10-block batches in 2003.
Oregon will travel to face Washington State, Wednesday at 7 p.m., before returning home for the second installment of the Civil War against Oregon State, Friday at 8 p.m.
