Head Coach Paul Westhead
On the win...

“I’m confident and hopeful that we can turn it around now and win some games.”

“I think we played better team basketball tonight and I don’t think our opponent’s skill level had much to do with that.”

“We made some big shots and the most important thing is, we didn’t crack or falter, even though they had some runs. This was a well earned win.”

On specific players' performances...
Danielle Love had a career game with 14 rebounds, which really helped us.”

“Lexi Peterson is one of those “do anything” type of players. She’s a team member that wants to win so badly, sometimes I feel like she goes too hard. She can play at least three positions competitively.”

“We needed more minutes out of Megan Carpenter and I thought she played really well tonight.”

F #14 Jillian Alleyne
On breaking the funk...
"A lot of those teams we played recently were in our hands and fell right out. So I think the games we should have won but we didn’t. When we’re in a funk it just lasts for a minute and I think we just needed to break that tonight. We have to start it early and not stay in this funk.”

On her mindset when it was tied up at 35…
“I think that players like Ariel, Lexi and Amanda kept us in the game. They kept talking to us. At that point, we were just like, ‘Let’s just keep doing what we’re doing and let’s not freak out and panic like we have in the past and let this slip.’ They were always in this—always talking to us, saying, ‘Keep the intensity. Keep playing defense. Keep doing what we do. Let’s not fall out of that just because we’re tied.’ I give all credit to Ariel, Lexi and Amanda. Players like that on our team are the ones picking us up”

On Danielle Love’s performance…
“I think she played the best tonight. She did all the little things that don’t show up in stats. I think she had the best effort tonight and that contributed to our win.”

G #33 Lexi Petersen
On the win…
“It feels so good. It feels like we finally got the monkey off our back. We finally played as a team and played together and ran the system.”

On starting…
(Ariel Thomas) has been iffy all week with her injuries. I’ve just been trying to prepare all week whether or not I was going to be a starter. I played my hardest in practice just in case they needed me to start and turns out she’s not quite ready yet so I was able to start and fill in.”

On playing at the one position…
“I feel very comfortable there. I practice there everyday. I feel very comfortable and coach I feel is confident with me at the one. My team is also, so I feel good about it.”

On her effort…
“I was just trying to distribute to my teammates. They were all running for me so I figured I’d reward them with some baskets…Everyone got in there and played their hardest.”
