EUGENE, Ore. - The Oregon softball team checked in at No. 8 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball preseason Top-25 poll, the organization announced on Tuesday.
The Ducks also came in at No. 8 in the preseason USA Today/NFCA preseason poll, which was announced on Jan. 21. Oregon won its first Pac-12 title last season and posted a 50-11 record, the second most wins in program history.
The Ducks return 14 letterwinners off last year's record-setting team, including two pitchers and six position starters. Oregon brings back 69.8 percent of its runs scored, 73.1 percent of its RBIs, 76.3 percent of its home runs and 81.7 percent of its stolen bases from the 2013 roster.
Individually, the Ducks welcome back two NFCA All-Americans from last season in outfielder Janie Takeda and catcher/designated player Alexa Peterson. Oregon also loses two All-Americans in pitcher Jessica Moore and infielder Kaylan Howard.
The Ducks, which have advanced to at least the Super Regionals all four years under head coach Mike White, the reigning Pac-12 Coach of the Year, open the season on Feb. 7 at the Kajikawa Classic in Tempe, Ariz. The Ducks will play Cal Poly, Fresno State, Appalachian State, North Carolina State and Boise State at the three-day tournament.
