Each month O Heroes sits down with one male student-athlete and one female student-athlete to get to know them better off the field. January’s Male O Hero of the Month is Brando Tessar, a junior pitcher on the Oregon baseball team.

Tessar is the oldest of three siblings and a native of Simi Valley, Calif. In the 2013 season, he and the Oregon baseball team qualified for the NCAA Regionals.

Dedicated to working in the Eugene/Springfield community, Tessar was most recently a standout leader at the O’Hara Catholic School Jog-A-Thon. During the event, he motivated and encouraged kids to maintain a healthy lifestyle and to actively participate in sports.

Currently, Tessar is working toward a degree in general social science with an emphasis in crime, law and society.

As an influential mentor, Tessar hopes to continue to give back post-graduation.

“I would love to come back [to Oregon] and help athletes with the problems that I’ve faced,” says Tessar.

In addition, he hopes to play professionally and continue his career at a major sports brand, specifically Nike.
