Jacksonville, Fla. – The Oregon women’s lacrosse team continued its offensive surge on Tuesday, blowing past Coastal Carolina 23-3 at D.B. Milne field. Shannon Propst, Nikki Puszcz and Courtney Valdez led the Ducks with four goals each while Casey Brogan, Devon Frazer and Carly O’Connell each chipped in with three goals.
“It was another fantastic team effort with a very smart, balanced and efficient level of play on both ends of the field,” head coach Jen Beck said. “I am proud of how consistent we played in both games, especially in such a short time frame.”
The 20-point margin of victory for UO (2-0) tied the team’s single-game record for largest margin of victory. The 20-plus goal in back-to-back games was only the third time in the lacrosse program’s history. The last time the Ducks scored 20-plus goals in consecutive games was back in 2012
The Ducks were nearly perfect in the free position goals category, making 8-of-9, passing the record of seven set on April 6, 2012.
O’Connell was one draw control shy of tying UO’s single-game record for draw controls in a game she set last year against St. Mary’s.
Oregon went ahead 6-0 early on the Chants before Coastal Carolina (0-1) picked up two quick goals to make it 7-2 at the 16:59 mark in the first half as the Ducks took a 13-2 lead into the break.
Lily Yednock was able to sneak one more past Caroline Federighi to give CCU its third and final goal of the game at 24:49 before the Oregon found the back of the net eight more times to close out the game 23-3.
The Ducks will take a two week hiatus to host their 7v7 Clinic and Playday with the local community before hitting the road once again for a pair of matches at Temple (Mar. 1) and Robert Morris (Mar. 3).
