EUGENE, Ore. – Tommy Thorpe has been named to the Golden Spikes Award watch list USA Baseball announced on Friday. The junior left-handed pitcher is one of 60 players nationwide named to the list.
Thorpe led the Ducks’ starters with a 2.16 ERA last season while finishing with a 7-5 record with a team-high 87 strikeouts in 104.1 innings pitched. He was among the Pac-12 leaders in six separate categories finishing fourth in batters struck out and batters struck out looking (25), while ranking sixth in opposing batting average (.221) and seventh in ERA. Thorpe finished the season with 12 quality starts including eight in a row to finish the year. He has held opponents scoreless over the last 15 innings heading into the Eugene Regional. Thorpe served as the team’s Friday starter the last eight weeks of the season finishing the stretch with a 1.13 ERA.
USA Baseball will release its 50-man midseason watch list on April 10.
