EUGENE, Ore. – UO women’s soccer head coach Kat Mertz has announced the signing of Halla Hinriksdóttir, a product of Iceland’s Youth Women’s National Teams. The 5-foot-7 goalkeeper is Mertz’s 10th addition to this year’s signing class. Hinriksdóttir will be eligible as a freshman to play in the fall.

A native of Reykjavik, Iceland, Hinriksdóttir has competed in Iceland’s U14, U16 and U19 Youth Teams and started in all six of her country’s UEFA Women’s U19 qualifying games the past two years.

Hinriksdóttir currently plays for the Breiðablik club team, and recently won the 2014 FM Tournament. She competed on the Afturelding club team from 2005-13, climbing the ranks from the U12 team to the Women’s Team.

Hinriksdóttir will join Oregon’s squad in the second season of the Mertz era following last season’s 4-12-3 campaign. The Ducks are returning 18 letter winners, and will be welcoming 10 newcomers including Hinriksdóttir.
