TUCSON, Ariz. – Playing on the road has proved to be tough for the Oregon women’s tennis team as the Ducks dropped their second-straight road match, this time to Arizona, 4-0.

Oregon is now 0-4 this year when playing on the road and 0-6 if you calculate neutral matches.

Marlou Kluiving and Lina Åkesson weren’t able to change their luck today, falling to Kim Stubbe and Lauren Marker, 8-3. Arizona’s Akilah James and Susan McRann overpowered Allie Hueffner and Kadie Hueffner, 8-2, who were playing in their first dual match on the road together.

After the Wildcats clinched the doubles point over Oregon (6-7 1-3 Pac-12), Jasmine Minor became the first Duck to fall in singles action. The junior was downed by Kim Stubbe, the reigning Pac-12 Player of the Week and 99th-ranked player in the nation by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. Sofia Hager fell shortly afterwards to Arizona’s Marker at singles No. 3, 6-3, 6-1.

Smyth, who is ranked 91st by the ITA, clinched the match for Arizona (14-1, 3-0 Pac-12) after she defeated Nicole Long 6-3, 6-2 at singles No. 1.

Kluiving was down 6-2 to James in the second set at the time Arizona clinched the match after Kluiving had won the first set, 6-4. A. Hueffner was tied with Shayne Austin, 4-4, in the second set when the match was suspended. Åkesson had won her first set over McRann, 6-3, but was trailing 5-2 in the second set when the match was halted after the Wildcats had won 4-0.

The Ducks return to action at 10 a.m. on Monday, March 24, at the Whiteman Tennis Center in Tempe, Ariz., for a neutral match against Northern Arizona.
