COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Oregon sand volleyball team lost a pair of matches at the Gamecock Invitational, Saturday, going down to LSU and College of Charleston by matching scores of 4-1.

Shellsy Ashen and Martenne Bettendorf were again the bright spots in the Oregon lineup, winning both their matches and improving to 3-0 this season at the No. 4 position. The duo started by beating the LSU team of Malorie Pardo/Laura Whalen, 21-12, 21 18 and were taken to three sets against College of Charleston but came out victorious, 21-17, 17-21, 17-15.

The match against College of Charleston was a competitive one that could have swung either way, with four of the five matches going to three sets. The Ashen and Bettendorf were the only ones to come on the winning end though. Canace Finley/Natalie Bookout Gonzalez and Tatum Norton/Kacey Nady each fell 15-10 in their final sets while Liz Brenner and Amanda Benson lost the deciding set, 15-11.

Oregon will conclude the Gamecock Invitational, Sunday, with matches against Louisiana-Monroe at 6 a.m. PT and Alabama-Birmingham at 11:30 a.m. PT.
