EUGENE, Ore. - Oregon pitcher Cheridan Hawkins was named first team Capital One Academic All-District, the Collegiate Sports Information Directors Association announced Thursday.

Hawkins was a first team District 8 selection, which includes Div. I schools from Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawai'i, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Canada. She was one of three pitchers, five Pac-12 picks and 12 total players who earned first team honors.

Hawkins is Oregon's sixth ever academic all-district pick, joining Alexa Peterson (two-time pick), Kaitlin Vitek, Kristi Leiter, Suzie Barnes and Alyssa Laux.

Student-athletes with a 3.30 or better GPA are considered for the award based on classroom and playing performance.

The sophomore lefty sports a 3.70 GPA in family and human services. She also ranks in the top-10 in the NCAA this year in wins, strikeouts and shutouts while her 1.35 ERA is in the top-20.

This is Hawkins' second career academic honor. She was also placed on the NFCA Scholar-Athlete team at the end of last season, along with Danica Mercado, Jessica Moore and Koral Costa.

Being a first team all-district pick this year puts Hawkins in the running for academic All-America honors later this month.
