VANCOUVER, Wash. – Brandon McIver fired a 68, 4-under card on Monday, May 5, in the US Open qualifier at the Royal Oaks Country Club and advanced to the sectional qualifying round that is set to be hosted at Emerald Valley Golf Course. McIver finished ahead of fellow teammates Ryann Ree, Sulman Raza and as well as head coach Casey Martin. Oregon golf alum Jack Dukeminier was also in the field.

“I’m excited for Brandon and Ryann on making it to sectionals,” said Martin. “Playing at EVGC will be a huge advantage for the guys. It was fun to play and watch them at Royal Oaks today.”

McIver was even par through the front nine thanks to a bogey on the par-5 ninth hole. The sophomore however rallied on the back-nine, and sank four birdies to finish the day in a tie for second.

“Today was fun,” said McIver. “It was a good test on a pretty demanding course. I’m excited about making it to the sectionals and feel like playing at Emerald Valley Golf Course will give me and Ryann an advantage. When the times come, I’ll just go out there, play loose, have fun and see what happens.”

Ree and McIver were neck-and-neck up until the pair hit the back-nine. Ree was 2-under heading into the 14th hole before a bogey set him back to 1-under. The sophomore, however, was able to birdie the next hole to finish at with a 70, 2-under card and tied for sixth.

Sitting in a three-way tie with just two spots left, the Redondo Beach, Calif., sank a birdie to win the final qualifying spot.

Martin, who was also playing in the qualifier shot a 71, 1-under card today and was in a tie for the final alternate spot. Like Ree, Martin sank a birdie to secure the last spot.

Raza also played at ROCC, and carded a 74, 2-over while Dukminier, a 2011 UO graduate, shot a 1-over card and finished in a tie for 19th.

Oregon State freshman Kevin Murphy fired in a 66, 6-under card to claim the top spot at Royal Oaks Country Club.

At Blue Lakes Country Club in Twin falls, Idaho, Thomas Lim tied for fourth shooting even par while Luke Park shot an 81, 9-over card. At the Fresno, Calif., local qualifier at the Fort Washington Golf and Country Club, Brandon Baumgarten fired in a 73, 1-over score.

McIver and Ree have a month before Sectional Qualifying for the US Open, which is set to take place on June 2 at Emerald Valley Golf Course.
