EUGENE, Ore. - University of Oregon junior outfielder Janie Takeda was named Most Valuable Player of the NCAA Division I Women's Softball Championship Eugene Regional after delivering key RBIs in all three UO victories to lead the No. 1 Ducks into the Super Regional round.
Takeda, a third-year starter from Placentia, Calif., batted .545 (6-for-11), with a home run, five runs scored and five RBIs from the No. 3 spot in the Oregon lineup. She knocked home Oregon’s first run of the regional in Friday’s 12-1 thrashing of Utah Valley and delivered the eventual game-winning RBIs in a pair of victories over No. 25 Wisconsin to send the Ducks through the winners’ bracket unscathed.
In Saturday’s 6-1 win over the Badgers, it was a two-run double in the bottom of the fifth to break a 1-1 tie, and in Sunday’s championship tilt she smacked a two-run homer in the first inning to set the tone in a 6-0 shutout.
The Ducks (52-7-1) led all teams with eight players selected to the all-regional squad. Wisconsin (36-20) had three and Albany (34-13) one.
