Maasland and Sardu named to All-Academic second team

EUGENE, Ore. – Three University of Oregon men’s tennis players earned 2014 Pac-12 Men’s Tennis All-Academic honors, Commissioner Larry Scott announced Thursday. Junior Daniel Sardu and sophomore Daan Maasland were named to the all-academic second team, while senior Robin Cambier received honorable mention accolades.

To be eligible for selection, a student-athlete must be in at least their second year with their University, maintain a 3.0 grade point average and be a starter or significant contributor.

A three-year letter winner from Sopron, Hungary, Sardu is majoring in Business Administration with a 3.56 GPA. On the court, Sardu has steadily climbed UO’s record books and now ranks sixth in program history in both career singles (58) and doubles (57) wins. This year, Sardu posted a 17-10 singles record and a 17-13 record in doubles.

Maasland, hailing from Geldrop, Netherlands, a Business Administration pre-major with a 3.65 GPA. In two seasons at Oregon, Maasland has posted a 37-15 mark in singles and a 32-13 mark in doubles. He led the heart of UO’s lineup this season, competing primarily in No. 2 doubles and No. 3 singles.

Cambier – UO’s all-time winningest player – is a Business Administration major with a 3.35 GPA. Cambier posted a 93-31 doubles mark and a 90-43 singles mark in his collegiate career, both of which are program records. This season, the Belgium native led the team in combined singles and doubles wins (47) and was named to the All-Pac-12 second team.
