The Oregon soccer team (0-0-0) opens the 2014 season in Madison, Wis., this weekend as the Ducks take on Wisconsin (0-0-0) at 5 p.m. Friday and Milwaukee (0-0-0) Sunday at 9:30 a.m. Both games will be played at the McClimon Complex.

SCOUTING THE BADGERS
Wisconsin finished last season with a 10-7-2 overall record and made it to the first round of the Big Ten Tournament. Wisconsin was selected to finish second in the conference this season in the preseason coaches’ poll as the Badgers return 10 starters in 2014. The team defeated No. 15 Marquette, 1-0, in a preseason exhibition.
Wisconsin and Oregon played for the first time last season with the Badgers taking a 2-1 win. Junior Brooke Strawn scored the Ducks’ goal in the match.
SCOUTING THE PANTHERS
Milwaukee was voted to win a 14th-straight regular season title and sixth-straight tournament title by the Horizon League coaches last month. Milwaukee posted a 10-9-1 record in 2013, earning a Horizon League Tournament title and an NCAA Tournament berth. The Panthers defeated Drake, 2-1, in an exhibition and opens the season against Tennessee before facing the Ducks.
This is the first meeting between Oregon and Milwaukee.
LAST TIME OUT
The Ducks shutout Trinity Western, 3-0, in an exhibition match on Aug. 13. Senior midfielder Lilly Archer scored twice while freshman midfielder Miranda Schulz added a penalty kick goal. Oregon outshot Trinity Western 18-2 and held a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.
PAC-12 CONFERENCE PRESEASON POLL ANNOUNCED
Oregon was selected to finish 11th in the Pac-12 by the league’s coaches. The Ducks earned 22 points, putting them ahead of Oregon State. UCLA, the defending Pac-12 and NCAA champions, earned 121 points and were selected to win the conference.
OREGON ADDS 12 NEWCOMERS TO 2014 ROSTER
Kat Mertz and the Ducks welcomed 12 newcomers, including 10 freshmen and two transfers, prior to the 2014 season. Freshmen Kerri Cook (Greshman, Ore.), Jordan Fleming (Las Vegas, Nev.), Zoe Higgins (Sandy, Ore.), Halla Hinriksdóttir (Reykjavik, Iceland), Abby King (Oak Park, Calif.), Abby Morrow (Bothell, Wash.), Michelle Rockey (West Hills, Calif.), Miranda Schulz (Temecula, Calif.), Brooke Tasker (Aurora, Colo.) and Madison Wiegand-Brown (Colorado Springs, Colo.) join the team, as well as transfers sophomore Marlo Sweatman (Herndon, Va./Florida State) and junior Katie McCormick (Green Bay, Wis./North Dakota State).
