EUGENE, Ore. – Single game tickets for the Oregon Ducks’ baseball season are on sale now at www.goducks.com/baseballtix. Tickets start at $8 each.
Oregon opens its 27-game home schedule at PK Park on Thursday, Feb. 25, against Illinois State after wrapping up a three-game series at San Diego State. The Ducks will host five Pac-12 series in Eugene, including against nationally-ranked teams California and USC. UO will also entertain Civil War rival Oregon State in a pair of non-conference games.
Oregon returns seven starting position players off the 2015 team, and another starter off the 2014 squad who missed last season with an injury. The Ducks head into 2016 with a starting rotation that features three experienced left-handed pitchers – Cole Irvin, Matt Krook and David Peterson – who have combined to make 54 starts over the last three seasons.
Irvin, a junior, has a 14-8 career record while making 32 starts. He earned freshman All-America honors in 2013 after posting a 12-3 record before missing the 2014 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery in February. He returned to the mound in 2015 and finished second on the team in innings pitched despite being limited on a pitch count during the first few months of the season.
Krook, a sophomore who earned freshman All-America honors in 2014, returns to the mound after missing all of last season following Tommy John surgery as well. The former first round draft pick (35th overall in 2014 MLB Draft) finished his freshman campaign with 60 strikeouts in 45.1 innings pitched over eight starts before the season-ending injury.
Peterson, a sophomore, led Oregon in innings pitched last season with 82 in 14 starts. He finished the year with a 4-6 record and a 4.39 ERA with a team-best 81 strikeouts.
The Ducks, who lost closer Garrett Cleavinger (6-2, 9 saves, 37 appearances in 2015), should have a solid back end of the bullpen with the return of Stephen Nogosek (6-3, 2.02 ERA, 39 appearances) and Cooper Stiles (3-1, 3.56 ERA, 1 save in 26 appearances) off of last year’s team. Nogosek has made 54 appearances out of the bullpen during his first two seasons at Oregon and is expected to move into the closer role after playing for the Collegiate National Team last summer. The Ducks also return senior Jack Karraker and sophomore Brac Warren off of the 2015 team.
Seniors Phil Craig-St. Louis, Matt Eureste and Nick Catalano return to lead the team along with juniors Austin Grebeck and Mark Karaviotis, and sophomores A.J. Balta, Jakob Goldfarb and Tim Susnara. Craig-St.Louis batted .296 last season with two home runs and 38 RBI, while Karaviotis started 55 games at shortstop while hitting .270.
