The Dayville, Ore., native became Oregon’s third of four NCAA champions in the javelin in 1991, a year after
claiming runner-up honors in 1990. Later her senior season, she earned a berth on the U.S. squad for the World
Championships (16th, 190-1), followed by an Olympic berth in 1992 and a threw of 160-9 in the Barcelona-hosted
event. Ten years later, the two-time conference winner still owned the Pac-10 javelin record (202-1, 61.60m) as well
as the Pac-10 Championships record (193-8, 59.04m) with throws from 1991. On all-time lists, her collegiate and
career best of 202-8 ranks second all-time for Oregon, fifth among all collegians and eighth all-time among Americans.
The Dayville High School graduate arrived in Eugene after a prep All-America career that included four state
titles, trips to the 1987 and ‘88 World Junior Championships following first- and second-place TAC junior championships
finishes, and ranked as the 10th-best prep ever.
