An outstanding halfback and defensive tackle from 1913-16, he helped Oregon to its only Rose Bowl victory in 1917. He captained the Ducks’ team during his senior season and became the Ducks’ first football all-American following that year.
The 185-pounder also became the first Oregon player to be enshrined in the National Football Foundation Hall of Fame. He went on to play for the Mare Island Marines service team following his graduation.
